How to Get Your Baby to Sleep Well

If sleep has been feeling like a thing of the past because your sweet little one is keeping you up all hours of the night then this blog post is for you! I have searched the internet and rounded up some of the BEST sleep products around which will be sure to support you and most importantly your baby in getting the best night sleep possible!

As an Amazon Associate, I earn a commission from purchases made through my links.

I’ve organized the products into these categories

  • Sleep Suits/ Sacks
  • SoundMachines
  • Cribs/ Co-Sleepers/ Rockers
  • Baby Monitors
  • Night Lights

Swaddles/ Transitional Swaddles/ Sleep Sacks

Swaddle Blankets

Swaddle blankets tend to be the holy grail when it comes to newborn sleep. You can wrap your little one up as tight as can be to help them feel like they are still in the womb. My favorite swaddle blankets are these super soft muslin ones

Bonus: You can also use them as a nursing cover, or ay out as a mat for baby to play on.

For those who haven’t been able to figure out how to swaddle, don’t worry! These next products are for you!

Miracle Blanket

The Miracle Blanket is a 100% cotton swaddle sack that is great for parents who don’t like to swaddle OR for babies who often break out of their swaddle. It’s 100% cotton, machine washable and doesn’t have any zippers, buttons, snaps, or velcro so it’s perfect for night time changes!

Love to Dream Sleep Sack

This Love to Dream Swaddle Sleep sack is the perfect solution when your baby starts breaking out of the traditional swaddle blankets. My daughter slept through the night in these sleep sacks early on. They have a simple, genius design that allows your baby to sleep with her hands by her face which feels natural to most babies.

Out of all the sleep products I can’t recommend this one enough!

Bonus: They also make a transitional sleep sack with zip-off arm sleeves that allows you to remove one sleeve at a time and train your baby away from the swaddle into a regular sleep sack.

It’s important to stop swaddling a baby when they start rolling over, so a product like this one is a must-have!

Baby Merlin Sleep Sack

While the Baby Merlin Sleepsuit looks like a spacesuit, it is actually another swaddle transition product. It was invented by a mother of four and a pediatric physical therapist. The Magic Sleepsuit helps establish good sleep habits for your little one by providing a cozy and secure feeling. Start using around 3 months when baby is ready to be transitioned out of a swaddle and stop using when baby starts rolling over (approximately 5-6 months for rolling from back to stomach)

Halo SleepSack

The Halo Sleepsack is a cozy wearable blanket to be used as a safer alternative to blankets in the crib. Having your child wear a sleep sack is a great way to keep your baby cozy and warm without compromising on safety. It’s sleeveless so that you can dress baby up or down in layers to ensure optimal warmth in whatever weather.

Personal Note: My daughter absolutely adores hers.

Sound Machines

Next up on baby sleep products are sound machines. Sound machines provide a few benefits for babies. First, it is a component of a bedtime routine that helps your baby to understand that it is sleep time. Sound machines also help drown out background noise such as barking dogs, talking, TV, etc. A sound machine is crucial in helping your baby sleep!

Sonos

We prefer to use a Sonos One in our daughter’s room. There are multiple lullaby playlists available on services like Spotify, which is what we use every night. This isn’t a traditional sound machine but it has other benefits beyond just being a sound machine.

First, you can control the baby’s music or white noise from your phone while in the other room. This is great because you don’t have to go into the room and disrupt your child’s precious sleep.

You can also play other music during the day. Music is a critical component of language development. Singing with your little one during the day is a great way to help them learn to talk and to develop their oral language.

Also, this speaker will be usable far past the time when your child needs a sound machine. If you are anything like me, you are probably sick of all the baby products you have to cycle through every few months. That’s not the case with a Sonos speaker.

If a Sonos One is a little out of your price range, don’t worry! I have some alternatives for you!

Hatch Baby Rest Sound Machine

The Hatch Baby doubles as a nightlight and a sound machine. Similar to the Sonos speaker you can control all the settings with your phone. You can create routines so that it goes off and on during certain times of the day. It also has a range of colors and sounds to choose from. It can also run all night long.

Dreamegg D1 Sound Machine

This highly rated white noise machine also doubles as a night light. There are 7 nature sounds including forest, ocean, lullaby, stream, crickets, thunder, fetal sound along with 7 fan sounds and 7 white noise sounds. This sound machine can be set to a timer or run all night.

Vanzoon White Noise Machine

The Vanzoon White Noise Machine also comes highly rated on Amazon. There are 36 sounds including nature sounds, fetal tone, and white noises. It can be set for 15, 30 or 60 minutes or has the option to run all night. It’s compact which makes it great for travel!

CoSleepers

Before baby can roll over from back to front you might want to consider a co-sleeper. Co-sleepers promote healthy breastfeeding and provide better sleep for mom and baby. When co-sleeping, using a cosleeper can help you feel secure knowing your baby is nestled in safety and won’t slide down between covers. The cosleeper also provides a barrier between you and the baby which helps them sleep independently next to you.

DockATot

The DockATot is lightweight and super functional. You can use it for co-sleeping, tummy time, lounging, diaper changes, and more. It has a removable washable cover, and you can purchase additional covers as well. It is especially amazing for the early newborn days when you are snuggled up in bed recovering from childbirth because your baby is snuggled right there next to you. I will forever love my DockATot for this reason alone.

Snuggle Me Organic

The Snuggle Me Organic lounger is another product designed to snuggle your baby and make them feel secure while sleeping. Users say it is also great for travel as well as cosleeping during the early months.

Organic Newborn Lounger

This Newborn Lounger comes highly rated and seems very similar to the DockATot described above at a cheaper price tag. It can be used for newborns and up to 12 months old. (Use caution with a co-sleeper once baby can rollover.) The one downside is that it doesn’t have a removable cover.

Baby Monitors

As with all things baby, the possibilities and choices with baby monitors are endless. Most baby monitors now come with video and not just sound like back in the olden days. Here are some of my favorite baby monitors.

The Nest or The Arlo Cam

The Nest Camera is actually an indoor security camera that records both sound and movement. This is what we personally use as our baby monitor. They are extremely easy to set up. You can watch right from your phone.

The thing we like best is that you can set up your phone to get notifications for when movement or sound is picked up in the room so that you don’t have to have the constant background feedback that most basic monitors have.

Similar to the Nest is the Arlo Cam

The Arlo Cam is an indoor/outdoor security camera with two-way audio and 7 days of free cloud storage. It can also be controlled using an Alexa device. (Alexa sold separately.)

Motorola MBP50-G2

This Motorola Baby Monitor comes with 2 cameras, room temperature display, two-way communication, 5 lullabies, and split-screen viewing. It has up to a 1000 foot range which is great if you are going to be out in your backyard or want to run to your neighbor’s house really quickly.

Babysense Video Baby Monitor

The Babysense Video Monitor is the baby monitor we use when traveling! For about half the price of our Nest Camera, you get video and audio display with 2-way audio. The range on this monitor is 900 feet. It can also play prerecorded lullabies!

As I said before we always use this monitor when traveling because we can’t hook our Nest Camera up to most hotel Wi-Fi. This monitor gets the job done.

The only downside I have for this baby monitor (and most monitors in general) is that the screens are bright when you are trying to sleep, and the audio feedback bothers my ears. My husband does not have the same complaint so it might just be me!

Night Lights

Babies under two years old sleep best in pitch black rooms. Having a night light can be intrusive to their sleep. However, if you are breastfeeding in the night a night light can be really helpful! In addition, many children start to be afraid of the dark around 2 years old. Picking a night light that you can use while breastfeeding during the early days and can also be used around 2 years old is your best bet!

The Hatch

The Hatch is a multifunctional sound machine and night light. You can change the colors, brightness, and sound all from your phone. The Hatch also allows you to program it to turn off and on at certain times of the day. This can be really useful when sleep training a toddler. It is very easy to use!

Mushroom Kids Child Nightlight

The Mushroom Kids Child Nightlight is an affordable night light option that would look cute in any baby’s room. It has 16 different color options and several brightness settings. It is very easy to use!

Ilavie Portable Children’s Night Light

The Ilavie nightlight is extremely easy to use! It has 3 different lighting modes and 7 different colors. This nightlight has a rechargeable battery that can be used for up to 15 hours on a full charge. It is made of soft BPA-free silicone that is detachable and washable.

Skip Hop Moonlight & Melodies Nightlight Baby Sleep Soother – Owl

The Skip Hop Owl is a perfect affordable option if the Hatch Baby is a bit out of your price range! This adorable owl comes with 4 lullaby melodies and 4 nature sounds. It also has the option for auto-timer sets for 15, 30, 60 minutes or continuous play. The coolest part? It projects a moon and stars as part of its night light function! What could be cuter in a nursery?!
